Milwaukee's Love Your Block Grant Application Overview

How It Works

Applications will be accepted from November 18, 2019 through May 1, 2020

  • The Love Your Block program provides mini-grants up to $1000 to reimburse neighborhood residents and organizations for projects that:

  1. Promote a high level of community engagement.

  2. Support a neighborhood initiative.

  3. Address a community concern on a city-owned property.

  • All projects are subject to program review. Submitting an application does not guarantee application acceptance or funds.

  • Mini-grant applications must be for projects that take place within our designated boundaries, shown here.

Obligations of Mini-Grant Recipients

  • Promote a high level of community engagement throughout the neighborhood.

  • Attend project and budget consultation meeting after application acceptance to finalize plans and logistics before implementation.

  • Show proof of outside funding for projects over $1,000.

  • Report project data and track volunteers throughout the project.

  • Complete and submit a final report 1-2 weeks after project completion that includes: documentation of participating volunteers, a detailed budget with receipts, and before & after pictures of project site.

  • Attend sustainability meeting following the completion of the project to determine who will maintain the space.

Planning Your Project

  1. Plan: goal, timeline, supplies, volunteer recruitment, and any other implementation logistics

  2. Outreach: make sure any and all types of community members are aware of the project, and promote it over the internet and on the streets

  3. Prepare: get your supplies and determine how tasks will be delegated to volunteers

  4. Document: take pictures of before, during, and after the project is implemented, and record volunteer stats

  5. Implement: set up the project location and inform your volunteers of their jobs

  6. Recognize: thank volunteers, partners, and sponsors who helped make the project possible by giving shout-outs an/or photos of the project
